Does Medicare pay for a nursing home stay after the hospital?

Medicare Part A can cover short-term skilled nursing or rehab after a qualifying hospital stay, which generally means at least 3 days admitted as an inpatient (the day of discharge does not count). Does Medicare pay for assisted living?
