I cannot believe what I walked into while visiting my mother. One of the residents was essentially leading the activities. Normally, actively involved and taking initiative would be a wonderful thing. But when I asked where everyone else was, I was completely unprepared for the answer: "There are no activities aides today." So, apparently, the solution is to have a resident run the show? That is incredibly concerning. Residents deserve proper staffing, supervision, and meaningful activities led by qualified staff- not to have the responsibility placed on another resident simply because no activities aides are available.

Unfortunately, my father was a resident here for over three months, and from the day he arrived, we had serious concerns about the level of care. When he was brought in, there was no proper process for receiving a new resident or ensuring that he was seen by a nurse or aide. Red flag #1. Within the first few weeks, my family and I were constantly challenged by the head nurse, despite her having very little interaction with my father and limited knowledge of his medications and baseline. She repeatedly dismissed the concerns of my mother, who was his primary caregiver and knew his condition better than anyone. Shortly after moving in, my father was hospitalized after a serious fall. He was severely dehydrated and had dangerously high sodium levels. As per the doctors in the hospital, this was directly related to inadequate hydration and medication management. While in the hospital, he returned to his baseline—alert, engaged, and interacting with us. He eventually returned to the facility and was placed on hospice care due to his declining condition. What was incredibly eye-opening was that the level of care he received once hospice became involved was dramatically better than what he had received previously. We visited him multiple times a week, and it was common to see residents—including my father—left unattended for extended periods. Residents were left sitting in chairs or walking without staff nearby, creating obvious opportunities for falls or other serious incidents. My advice is simple: stay away from this facility. Based on our experience, they did not provide my father with the level of care he needed, and it was difficult to see how the same level of care was acceptable for the other residents. The most frustrating part was that they repeatedly failed to listen to the people who knew my father best—his family and his doctors. We trusted this facility to care for him, and that trust was not earned.

My sibling moved from another memory care facility into memory care at Mira Vie, Tinton Falls a year ago. He was not ambulatory and was able to use a hoyer at Mira Vie which was important. Consequently his quality of care improved as he has been included with the residents and has settled in. The Memory Care and nursing staff are very knowledgeable, very good, very caring; and although he can no longer communicate they include him in activities of the residents which I know he appreciates. Many people look for the next shiny thing in memory care and Mira Vie may not have all the "bling" but they do have staff who are knowledgeable, have experience and importantly care about him, and who we trust.

Our family is incredibly grateful for the compassionate care our mother has received at Mira Vie in Tinton Falls. She’s been part of the community for just over a year, and the experience has exceeded our expectations in every way. From day one, the staff treated us like family—professional, responsive, and genuinely devoted to creating a safe and uplifting environment for residents. Our mother had few options for quality memory care in northern New Jersey, but Mira Vie welcomed her with open arms and a thoughtful approach to her needs. Thanks to their enriching activities, engaging events, and dedication to keeping residents on the memory care floor active and connected, our mom is thriving. The team at Mira Vie of Tinton Falls is wonderful. It is a difficult transition moving a loved one into memory care but Angela supported me throughout the whole process. Angela as well as other members of the team provided me with their direct cell phones to be able to contact them and they never made me feel like my questions were too many or too often. During the adjustment I worked closely with the nursing staff regarding my mom’s medications. Vanessa and Ashley were both so friendly and helpful. I truly felt that they cared about making my mom comfortable. The psychical therapy team also stepped in quickly to pick up PT exactly where my mom left off with her prior therapists. It is reassuring to know my mom is safe at Mira Vie and supported by a great staff.
